GREENFIELD — Greenfield police are investigating a double homicide that occurred late Monday night at a local gas station and are asking community members who were at the scene to come forward with information.
According to the Greenfield Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:50 p.m. on June 22 to the Fastrip Gas Station at 145 El Camino Real. Police said the first officer arrived on scene just 53 seconds after the initial 911 call.
Two people were killed in the incident. Monterey County Sheriff’s Coroner Office has identified the victims as Elizabeth Saavedra, 32, of Soledad, and Aldo Juan Mandujano, 26, of King City.
“Our thoughts remain with their families and loved ones during this difficult time,” the department stated in an update posted Tuesday.
Detectives were called to the scene and immediately assumed the investigation. Since then, investigators have been reviewing surveillance footage from the gas station, as well as footage from the city’s Flock and Surveillance Grid camera systems.
Police said the camera technology has provided investigators with significant leads and helped advance the case.
At this time, authorities said there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
While Greenfield police have not publicly confirmed a motive in the case, other media reports citing law enforcement sources have described the killings as a targeted shooting involving rival gang members.
Investigators are seeking to identify and speak with several individuals who were at the gas station when the homicide occurred. While surveillance footage has proven valuable, police believe potential witnesses may have seen or heard information that was not captured on video.
“We are asking for our community’s assistance by uploading any videos or images that you believe may be related to this incident,” the department said in an earlier statement.
Anyone who was at the gas station during the incident or who has information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Greenfield Police Department at 831-385-8311. Information may be provided anonymously.
Community members can also upload photos or video evidence related to the case at greenfieldpdca.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/fastrip.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
