GONZALES — The Gonzales Unified School District is kicking off its new school year this week with the first day of school and a Community Resource Fair at La Gloria School on Aug. 10.
The Resource Fair is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 8:30 a.m.
“The Fair is just to let parents know what kind of services different organizations can provide,” La Gloria School Secretary Irene Jimenez said.
La Gloria will be starting the school year with new Principal Yolanda Barba, who previously served as assistant principal. Taking over the vice-principal position is Erica Lee.
Over the past week students have completed registration packets for Fairview Middle School, and the school district also hosted a Free T-Dap clinic on Aug. 3.
La Gloria had its class assignment pick-up day July 31 through Aug. 3, during which students turned in their completed registration packet.
This year the district will not be offering home-to-school transportation for students in fifth through 12th grade who live within city limits. Transportation will still be provided to students who live within city limits on the east side of Highway 101.
The district will continue to offer the option of transportation to those who pay their donations for the 2017-2018 school year.
