GONZALES — At the last Gonzales City Council meeting, the council and mayor came together to honor local staff for National Public Works Week, which runs from May 21 to 27.

The Gonzales Public Works Department is one of the hidden departments in the city.

It is said that no one thinks about the Public Works Department until something goes wrong.

The theme of this year’s National Public Works Week is “Public Works Connects Us.”

From the city parks to the water in and out of the city, Gonzales Public Works is involved in it.

The week recognizing Public Works was organized in the 1960s.

“I want to thank all the work our Public Works does for us in keeping our city nice and neat,” said Gonzales Mayor Maria Orozco.

The council approved proclamation No. 2017-01, which asks that all residents of the city join with the American Public Works Association in paying tribute to the public works professionals, engineers, operators, maintenance workers, managers and employees and to recognize the contributions they have made to the city’s health, safety, welfare and quality of life.
