GONZALES — Last month the Gonzales High varsity and junior varsity girls basketball team hosted an awards night and banquet at the school cafeteria, where players were honored for their commitment to the program this past season.
Head coach Eddy Ramirez presented his players and gave out certificates of achievement, certificates for high GPAs and special team awards.
Special team awards included the Relentless Award to given to a players that work hard every day; the Family Award, for players that put team first; the Discipline Award, given to players that make smart decisions; the Impact Award, players that take on difficult tasks; and the 120 Player Award, given to a player the always gives 120 percent.
These Spartan Value Awards were given to the following players: Heidi Camacho and Jaqueline Valdez (Family Award); Valerie Amador (Relentless Award); and Aalyse Martinez (Discipline Award).
Other awards included: Carmen Sanchez (Most Improved); Maryanne Camarena (Impact Award); Camilla Ramirez (120 Award); and Priscilla Hurtado (MVP).
Junior varsity coaches Kristen Clarke and Tranada Ross presented awards to Patricia Zarate (Defensive Player of the Year); Valeria Amador (MVP); and Alexsa Sandoval (Offensive Player of the Season).
Coach Clarke left her players with the following words, “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
