Taylor Farms employees delivered more than 1,000 backpacks to schools in Gonzales, Salinas, Tracy and Dallas, Texas.

GONZALES — First graders at La Gloria Elementary School received a surprise Aug. 13, the first day of school, from Taylor Farms, which gave backpacks to every first-grade student.

The 2018-19 school year marks the second year Taylor Farms’ Gonzales staff have visited La Gloria School to give out backpacks. Among the classes that Taylor Farms distributed backpacks to was Gabe Almader’s class.

Almader has taught first grade for about nine years and has been teaching for 24 years in the Gonzales Unified School District.

“It’s nice to know that there’s people out in the community thinking about us and are willing to help out these kids,” Almader said.

Taylor Farms also gave the teachers, including Almader, a gift certificate to Walmart. Almader has 23 students in his first-grade class, and the class is in the middle of doing something for Taylor Farms to express its appreciation.
