GONZALES — Soldiers from every military branch were honored Monday at the Gonzales Cemetery for a Memorial Day Observance, hosted by the Gonzales American Legion Post 81.

Members of the Soledad High JROTC and the Gonzales Police Explorers led a presentation of the flags, and the program began with honoring local veterans by Paul Guzman, past commander of Post 81.

Jennifer Gray sang the National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Councilmember Liz Silva and Shirley Piffero read the names of every soldier that has served in every war.

The May 27 event concluded with Janelle Gularte placing a wreath in front of the memorial that honors the men and women from Gonzales that have served in the armed forces of the United States during time of conflict, and the Gonzales Police Explorers led by Commander George Worthy fired off a 21-gun salute in honor of all who have served.

The annual Memorial Day Fundraising BBQ for American Legion Post 81 followed that afternoon.
