GONZALES — Local businesses and residences are getting into the holiday spirit by decorating the outside of their buildings throughout the town, and the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce selected several of them to recognize for its annual Holiday Decorating Contest.

Chamber members looked at contest entry displays Dec. 9 and determined first- and second-place winners who were announced at the Chamber Holiday Mixer Dec. 11 at Gonzales Rabobank.

Among the business winners was Gonzales Dental, which took first place for its decorating that included white and purple lights strung from its location along with snow-outlined windows.

The first-place residence award went to Diane Amador’s house at 21 Seventh St., which was selected because the home featured handmade items rather than only store-bought ready made items. The residence features a giant gingerbread man, reindeer, penguins and several lights strung around the exterior of the house.

The second-place residence winner was awarded to Roxanna Martinez at 303 Longhorn Drive. Her home was decorated with the three kings, “Nutcracker” soldiers, wreath lights, a snowman and more.

“It had wonderful lighting, great decorations and they were wonderfully arranged,” said Rosie Sanchez, Chamber member.

First- and second-place residence winners won a cash prize.
