GONZALES — The Gonzales High boys cross country team ran like a determined pack to defeat the York School Falcons in the last Pacific Coast Athletic League Center Meet of the season last Thursday at Toro Regional Park.
With Miguel Mendoza leading the way with a second place individual place, the Spartans had six runners place in the top 10 in the Cypress Divisional Meet. In the varsity girls division, the Spartans placed seventh overall and were led by Ashley Ochoa’s third place finish. Pablo Mendoza placed first in the JV boys race to lead Gonzales to a third-place finish.
“The team has been working hard all season and they are exactly where they should be physically and mentally,” said head coach Margie Daniels. “The main goal is to arrive at the championships focused and leave everything on that course to achieve the best possible outcome. I have complete confidence in my team that they will compete with heart and run smart.”
On Saturday, the Spartan teams will compete in the PCAL Championships at Toro Regional Park. Gonzales High will have participants in the frosh-soph boys race at 9 a..m, the JV boys race at 10 a.m., the varsity boys race at 10:30 a.m. and the varsity girls race at 11:30 a.m.
The Spartans will be competing in Cyress Division.
