GONZALES — The Gonzales City Council Chambers will soon be getting new renovation updates made to the building.

“These chambers that we are in are going to be updated,” said Public Works Director Harold Wolgamott. “The bids are out and the mandatory walkthrough was the week of Nov. 6.”

Bids are due the week of Nov. 13 to allow for the item to be brought back to the city council at its next meeting. The renovation will take place in December.

The updated council chambers will include new electronics, such as microphones and video, and new wood as well as drapes and lighting. The chambers will also become more compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act by installing a ramp leading to the dais.

“This is a historic building and none of these changes are effecting the historic element,” said Wolgamott.

The chairs that surround the outside of the chambers and the step up to those chairs is historic to the Council Chambers, and, according to Wolgamott, the goal is to keep at least two of the outside rows.
