SOLEDAD — A 12-year-old boy was injured Wednesday evening after an electric bicycle collided with a vehicle in Soledad, according to the Soledad Police Department.
Officers responded at about 7:15 p.m. on July 8 to the 200 block of East Street for a reported traffic collision involving a vehicle and a juvenile riding an e-bike.
When officers arrived, they found the 12-year-old suffering from injuries suffered in the crash and provided medical aid until emergency personnel arrived. The boy was airlifted to a Bay Area hospital for further treatment. Police said his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Soledad Police Department used the incident to remind the community that e-bikes are subject to many of the same traffic laws as traditional bicycles.
“Riders should always wear a properly fitted helmet, obey traffic laws, remain alert and avoid distractions while riding,” the department stated. “Parents are encouraged to discuss safe riding practices with their children and ensure they understand the rules of the road. Motorists should remain attentive, reduce speed in residential areas and be prepared to safely share the roadway with bicyclists.”
