SOLEDAD — Soledad City Council officially proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month during its July 1 meeting, recognizing the important role parks, recreation programs and community spaces play in enhancing the quality of life for Soledad residents.
Councilmember Ben Caldera read the proclamation into the official record before the City Council unanimously adopted it.
Parks and Recreation Month is celebrated nationwide each July to highlight the essential role local park and recreation agencies play in building healthy, vibrant and connected communities. Throughout the month, the City of Soledad encourages residents of all ages to take advantage of local parks, trails, recreation programs and community events.
Mayor Anna Velazquez thanked the Soledad community for its continued investment in parks and recreation through Measure S.
“We thank our residents for investing in our families as part of Measure S,” Velazquez said. “The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is more than a place for sports and activities — it is the heart of our community. It brings people together, creates opportunities for youth and families to connect, provides valuable workforce development and leadership experiences, and fosters lifelong friendships and memories. Investing in recreation is an investment in stronger, healthier and more connected communities.”
Following the proclamation, Parks and Recreation Director Ana Ambriz accepted the recognition on behalf of the department and encouraged residents to celebrate by enjoying Soledad’s parks and participating in community programs.
“Parks and Recreation Month is the perfect time to celebrate the heartbeat of our community,” Ambriz said. “Our parks and programs offer a space for everyone to connect, stay active and thrive. I encourage all residents to step outside this July, explore a new park, participate in a community event, and celebrate the vital spaces that make our city such a wonderful place to live.”
The City of Soledad’s Parks and Recreation Department offers year-round recreational programs, youth and adult sports, community events and opportunities for residents to gather, learn and stay active.
