GONZALES — Fairview Middle School student Izzie Pacheco of Gonzales won the Freestyle State Championship on May 30 at the Selland Arena at Fresno.
Pacheco also won the Folkstyle State Championship in March in the 12-and-under division.
Wrestling for the Salinas Valley Wrestling Club, Pacheco just turned 12 years old and will be a seventh-grade student in the fall.
At Fresno, Pacheco won one match by pin, another by decision, and claimed the title with a technical fall. She wrestled in the 140-pound weight class.
Pacheco will focus the rest of this year on training for Women’s Nationals in Washington and will have some smaller local tournaments until the nationals.
