COLLEGE WORKSHOP

MONTEREY COUNTY — Hartnell College will host a free Cash for College workshop Wednesday, Feb. 25, to help students and families complete financial aid applications for the 2026–27 academic year. The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Building C, Steinbeck Hall, on the Salinas campus. Financial aid experts will provide step-by-step assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the California Dream Act Application and answer questions about grants, scholarships and work-study opportunities. Attendees should bring FSA IDs for student and parent, 2024 W-2 forms and tax returns, and a driver’s license, Social Security card or Alien Registration Card, if applicable. ART RECEPTION

SALINAS — Hartnell College Art Gallery will host a free public reception Thursday, Feb. 26, for “Skin Deep,” a solo exhibition by California artist Megan Koth. The event is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hartnell College Art Gallery, Building J, Visual & Performing Arts Center, 411 Central Ave., in Salinas. The reception will feature live music, a complimentary taco bar and free wine for guests 21 and older, in accordance with campus alcohol policies. Koth, who is based in Ventura, explores themes of ritual, control and vulnerability through painting and self-portraiture, drawing on imagery from contemporary beauty culture. The works in “Skin Deep” examine how beauty practices, such as skincare and makeup, can function as both healing gestures and sources of anxiety. Koth earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of California, Santa Barbara in 2020 and currently serves as graduate program manager and lecturer in the university’s Department of Art. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to check for schedule updates before arriving.


KING CITY STAMPEDE

KING CITY — Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation will present the annual King City Stampede, a three-day professional rodeo, Feb. 27-March 1 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. The event will feature traditional rodeo competitions, including PRCA-sanctioned performances each day, along with children’s stick horse races and mutton busting. Saturday includes a barn party with music by Southbound 101, and each night has a special theme, such as First Responders Night on Friday and Golden Circle Night on Saturday. Food vendors, boutique shopping and a wine and beer corral for adults 21 and older will be available. Parking will be offered off Division Street for a fee, and general admission tickets are available online or at the gate.
