It is with great pride and gratitude that I share a significant milestone for Mee Memorial Healthcare System and the communities we serve: the completion of the first phase of our remodeled Diagnostic Imaging Department.

In an area where resources and transportation can often limit access to comprehensive medical care, this investment reinforces our mission to provide safe, high-quality, and timely care to our community.

As the only hospital in South Monterey County, Mee Memorial plays a critical role in the health and wellbeing of more than 80,000 residents, from Bradley and San Ardo to Soledad. For many, we are the first and only line of defense in medical emergencies.

Recognizing this responsibility, we saw the need to modernize and expand two of our most essential departments: Diagnostic Imaging and the Emergency Department. While renovation of the Emergency Department continues, we are proud to announce that the first phase of the Diagnostic Imaging remodel is complete.

Diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role in modern healthcare, enabling doctors to quickly and accurately detect, diagnose, and monitor a wide range of conditions. Access to local diagnostic imaging is more than a convenience — it can be lifesaving, reducing delays and improving outcomes.

With phase one now complete, we’re able to offer faster, more precise imaging through the use of advanced diagnostic tools like digital X-rays. Once the next phase is finished, our capabilities will expand to include a state-of-the-art CT scanner, advanced ultrasound technology, and a new mammography system. Having these tools on-site means faster diagnoses and better coordination of care. In time-sensitive emergencies, on-site imaging like CT scans or X-rays allows medical teams to assess conditions and respond quickly.

For rural residents, access to local modern healthcare can significantly impact their health and wellbeing. Travel time to larger hospitals in Salinas or beyond can stretch over an hour or more, depending on traffic, weather, and access to transportation. Our ability to provide advanced care right here in South County helps bridge that critical gap. As the most significant project MMHS has undertaken in 10 years, this renovation of two major departments ensures that patients can receive these services close to home, surrounded by the comfort and support of their loved ones.

These essential upgrades better equip us to serve and uplift our community. To everyone who recognizes the importance of maintaining accessible healthcare in South County and who has supported this effort — Board members, patients, providers, donors and staff — I offer my heartfelt thanks.

Together, we are supporting a healthier population where every resident has access to the care they need, when and where they need it most.
