SALINAS — Hartnell College has announced the inductees for its 11th Annual Athletics Hall of Fame, celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of outstanding athletes, faculty, staff, volunteers, supporters and teams who have left an indelible mark on the college’s athletic legacy.

Honorees will be inducted at a luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the college’s main campus at 411 Central Ave. in Salinas.

The 2024 Hall of Fame class represents the best of Hartnell’s athletic tradition, with inductees spanning multiple decades and sports. This year’s honorees include:

  • Athletes: Allen George, Basketball (1973-74); Dave Mills, Baseball (1973-74); Jody Cobb Nance, Track (1979-81); Caron Choy Paixao, Track (1979-81); Karen Staub Schramm, Swim (1980-82); Daniel Tapia, Cross Country and Track (2008-09); and Henry Williams, Football (1975-76).
  • Faculty and Staff: Robert Kersey, Athletic Trainer (1982-1993); and Melissa Stave, Physical Education and Adaptive P.E. (1980-2014).
  • Volunteer/Supporter: Cel Esperanza, Team Manager for Football (1980-1982) and Scorekeeper for Basketball, Volleyball, and Football (1987-present).
  • Teams: 1975 Men and Women’s Swim & Dive Team; 1978 Baseball Team; and 2013 Men’s Soccer Team.

“We are thrilled to honor these outstanding individuals and teams who have significantly contributed to Hartnell’s proud athletic history,” said Dan Teresa, Hartnell College Dean of Athletics. “Throughout the years, their dedication, talent and spirit have brought recognition and inspiration to the college and to countless students and athletes.” 

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a college tour, followed by check-in and photo-ops at Steinbeck Hall at 10:30 a.m. and the luncheon and induction ceremony at the Student Center at 11:30 a.m. Then, at 4 p.m., there will be a Tailgate Party at the Storm House (Rabobank Stadium), and at 6 p.m., the Hartnell College vs. Cabrillo College Football Game begins at Rabobank Stadium.
