SOLEDAD — City of Soledad hosted a solemn ceremony Sept. 11 to honor the victims, survivors and first responders who courageously served during the tragic events of 9/11.

The morning event outside Soledad City Hall featured the city’s first bell-ringing ceremony in honor of those who lost their lives in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. It marked the 23rd anniversary of the attacks and served as a time of remembrance, reflection and unity.

“This was the first time the City of Soledad commemorated the anniversary of 9/11 with the bell ceremony,” Fire Chief Jason Luckenbach said. “We hope that this will help new firefighters and police officers never to forget our brothers and sisters lost on that tragic day.”

Community members were invited to attend and pay their respects, alongside City officials and personnel from the Soledad police and fire departments.

Speakers included Mayor Anna Velazquez and Police Chief Damon Wasson.

The ceremony was followed by an invitation to enjoy coffee and sweet bread inside the City Council Chambers.
