GONZALES — In partnership with the American Legion Post 81 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 81, the City of Gonzales is seeking veterans and active-duty service members of the community of Gonzales for the Hometown Heroes Program.

Those who are a current or former member of the military and live in Gonzales, or a family member of someone who served while living in Gonzales, are invited to download and print an application form for the Hometown Heroes Program.

“The mission of the program is to pay tribute to those who put their lives on the line to serve our country,” according to the City in a news release.

The City will create a metal sign display with the Hometown Hero’s photo, name and branch of service and the signs will be displayed in Central Park.

American Legion Post 81 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 81 will underwrite $20 toward the total cost of each sign. The applicant will be responsible for paying the remaining $35.

A ceremony will be held at Central Park to honor the Hometown Heroes at the beginning of November. More details will be released once a date and time have been confirmed.

To complete the Hometown Hero application, go to surveymonkey.com/r/3Y3SHY5. The last day to submit an application is Wednesday, Oct. 9.
