GONZALES — For the first time since 1977, the Gonzales High baseball team has won a championship and earned a spot in the upcoming Central Coast Section playoffs.
The Spartans were 14-6 overall and 14-1 in the Cypress Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League. Gonzales had a makeup game with Pajaro Valley on Monday, after press deadlines, to complete the division schedule.
The last time Gonzales was in the baseball playoffs was in 2021, when the Spartans defeated North Monterey County 4-3 in a play-in game that took place in Castroville, followed by a 13-3 CCS play-in game loss to King City.
“Right now we are just concerned with finishing the regular season,” said Gonzales head coach Andrew Lujan. “We’ll just have to wait for this weekend to find out who we will be playing next.”
