GREENFIELD — An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 17-year-old boy early Tuesday morning in Greenfield.

According to Greenfield Police Department, Julian Nunez-Gomez turned himself in to police later that afternoon and is currently booked into the Monterey County Jail on murder charges.

On Dec. 19, at about 2 a.m., Nunez-Gomez allegedly stabbed the 17-year-old outside of a house in the 200 block of Chardonnay Drive. The boy was transported to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds but later died from his injuries.

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Christopher Alonso of Greenfield, according to local media outlets. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to help his family.

On Wednesday, following a residential search warrant in the 200 block of Apple Avenue, a 17-year-old juvenile was also arrested in connection with the murder. The juvenile — whose name was not released due to state privacy laws — is facing charges of assault, conspiracy and accessory to murder.

“The individual in question has been transported to the Monterey County Juvenile Hall, and we can confirm at this time that there are no other outstanding individuals related to this investigation,” said Greenfield Police.

The stabbing appears to be gang-related, police said.

Last Friday, Dec. 15, just before midnight, Nunez-Gomez and four male juveniles — ages 13, 14 and two 17-year-olds — had been arrested for a traffic violation on North Street in Soledad, according to police records. No other details were available.

“Our hearts reach out to the family affected by this senseless act and to all community members who share in the sorrow of this loss,” said Greenfield Police. “We stand with you in this difficult time, and our thoughts and prayers are with you all.”
