SOLEDAD — City of Soledad recently hosted a special ceremony for brand-new field lights installed at Blas Santana Park.
“The City is excited to expand the capabilities of this park, especially as it gets darker earlier this time of year,” the City stated on social media. “…We took some night shots of the park with the lights on and it’s incredibly impressive how illuminating they are on the field with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.”
According to Mayor Anna Velazquez, the light installation project took more than four years to come to fruition at the Soledad park, located on the corner of Gabilan Drive and Prado Drive.
“Today we finally turned on the lights and now our families will be able to enjoy evening games and tournaments,” Velazquez said. “We honor the legacy and community service of Mr. Blas Santana and his family. His love for Soledad, soccer and family will live forever in the spirit of our community!”
The Santana family shared some thoughtful words about the life of Blas before hitting the switch in his honor at the Oct. 12 ceremony. After the big reveal, Soledad Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Soccer League held scrimmages on the now-illuminated field.
“We want to thank everyone who came out to honor Blas Santana and unveil the new light installation at the park,” the City stated. “We are humbled and grateful to continue to serve this community and give our children safe spaces to play and be active.”
