PROTECTING PETS
MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County has sheltered 38 evacuated pets, including cats, dogs, puppies, chickens, a bearded dragon and an iguana. Five of those pets have been able to return home and 33 remain in care. SPCA also evacuated animals from flooded areas and is providing free pet food and supplies at all the local emergency shelters. MOSAIC WORKSHOP
KING CITY — Registration has begun for Sol Treasures’ first “Free in 23” workshop of the year. The Heart Mosaic Workshop with instructor Debra Cobb is set for Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A limited number of spots are available for the class, which is for adults. In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Sol Treasures is offering 15 free workshops to the community this year.
COCKTAILS AND CULTURE
SALINAS — National Steinbeck Center will host “Cocktails and Culture,” featuring wine, appetizers and the opening of its newest exhibition, “John’s Jackets: The Art and History of the Book Jacket,” on Friday, Jan. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit showcases many of Steinbeck’s most iconic book jacket designs and explores the lives and careers of the designers who created these works of art. The event at the Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St. in Salinas, is 21 and over and will be held rain or shine. For tickets, go to steinbeck.org/event.
