GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department responded to a fatal shooting in the 300 block of Angus Drive on Thursday, Jan. 12.

Officers arrived on scene around 3 p.m. to find an unconscious man laying on the roadway who appeared to have been shot. The man, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Officers contacted two men near the scene who reported that they had been victims of a residential burglary earlier that morning. They said the man shot was the burglary suspect, and he had returned to the area, where they confronted him and a physical altercation took place that led to the shooting.

The investigation remains active, police said, and the two men have been detained for further questioning.
