GOLF TOURNAMENT

KING CITY — King City High School Mustang Bench’s Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, at King City Golf Course. The four-person scramble starts at 9 a.m., with a barbecue and raffle to follow the tournament. Mustang Bench is a nonprofit organization comprised of parents, community members and coaches who support the athletic program at KCHS. GARAGE SALE

SOLEDAD — City of Soledad’s second annual Citywide Garage Sale is planned for the weekend of Sept. 17-18. There is no cost to sign up. Go to bit.ly/3bn3jjv to register. Shoppers will receive a map to see which houses will be participating. Also, there will be a cleanup day the next week, on Saturday, Sept. 24, sponsored by Tri-Cities Disposal and Recycling. Residents can bring items that could not sell or be donated so they can be properly disposed.


BANNED BOOKS

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Free Libraries and libraries around the country will celebrate Banned Books Week from Sept. 18 to 24 and the public’s freedom to read, with the theme “Books Unite Us, Censorship Divides Us.” Each year many books are challenged because of the content. Recent challenged books include, “This Book is Gay” by Juno Dawson, “New Kid” by Jerry Kraft and “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. Visit local library branches to find displays highlighting banned or challenged books.


BONUS BRIEF: TACO TUESDAY

KING CITY — King City Police Department will host Tacos with a Cop on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Skate Park, 1245 Bedford Ave., in King City. The community is invited to stop by and mingle with officers while receiving a free taco provided by Tacos La Potranca, while supplies last.
