GONZALES — Wrestling season for the Gonzales Spartans is in full affect, as they continue to stay busy entering in two tournaments in back-to-back weekends.

The first tournament was the Ed Ferrell Classic at Harbor High School in Santa Cruz. Many Gonzales wrestlers just missed out on taking first place.

The following Spartan wrestlers placed: Anthony Cisneros, third at 106 pounds; Gracie Leon, third at 112-116 pounds; Natalia Villalobos, third at 117-127 pounds; Dominique Montiel, second at 220 pounds; and Carlos Alvarez, third at 285 pounds.

On Dec. 11, Gonzales hosted the Spartan Winter Crucible, with 10 teams and more than 175 wrestlers participating in the tournament. Both varsity girls and JV boys performed.

Gonzales had several medalists, including Natalia Villalobos, who placed third at 121 pounds.

For JV boys, Jose Viorato placed first at 152 pounds; Victor St. John, third at 182 pounds; Dominique Montiel, second at 220 pounds; Carlos Alvarez, second at 285 pounds; and Andrew Zarate, third at 285 pounds.
