MONTEREY COUNTY — A new wildfire, named the Coleman Fire, broke out Sunday afternoon adjacent to the Dolan Fire on the Los Padres National Forest and Fort Hunter Liggett army base, west of King City.
As of Monday, the fire has grown to an estimated 500 acres and is 0% contained. Voluntary evacuation orders were reported for the nearby Pine, Reliz and Coleman canyon areas.
Resources assigned to the Dolan Fire are actively engaged with the new start, according to the Eastern Area Incident Management Team, which has been delegated authority for suppression of the Coleman Fire.
“Numerous resources have been ordered to assist with the suppression effort, including use of airtankers and heavy helicopters,” reported the Eastern Area IMT in an update Monday.
The Coleman Fire began at about noon on Oct. 18 on the east side of the Dolan Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Dolan Fire, which started Aug. 18 south of Big Sur, spread to 124,924 acres on the Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest. It is 98% contained as of Monday.
In addition, the Monterey Ranger District remains under a closure order for visitor and firefighter safety, the Eastern Area IMT reported.
