MONTEREY COUNTY — The number of residents who have tested positive for novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Monterey County has increased to 545, up 15 from the previous day, according to the latest data from Monterey County Health Department.
Monday’s report shows a total of 333 residents who have recovered from the respiratory disease, an increase of 13 from yesterday. There have been 10 deaths related to Covid-19 in the county, including the two additional cases that were reported Friday.
The majority of those infected with Covid-19 are from the Salinas area (335), with the others from the Peninsula and Big Sur area (49), South County (116) and North County (45), according to the most recent data.
Within South County, the numbers have been broken down by zip code. Greenfield (93927) has the most cases with 35, followed by Soledad (93960) with 30, Gonzales (93926) with 27 and King City (93930) with 18. Six cases are classified as “other” in South County.
Most of the county’s cases (273) had no known pre-existing medical conditions, and currently there are 62 residents who are hospitalized due to the virus.
The latest data also shows the majority of Covid-19-infected residents work in the agriculture industry (205), followed by retired or unemployed (68); health care, dental care and first responders (55); educational and child care setting (39); office, management, sales or retail (30); food service (18); craftsman, construction workers and other skilled labor (16); and professional, technical and related professions (12).
Sixty-eight of the cases’ employment industry are unknown or under investigation, while 34 are listed as “other.”
Screening and testing sites across Monterey County have completed Covid-19 testing for more than 10,000 residents as of June 1.
In California, the latest numbers show a total of 110,583 positive cases of Covid-19 and 4,213 deaths statewide as of May 30.
Monterey County and the entire state remain under shelter-in-place orders. Over the weekend, the county’s Variance Attestation form was approved by the state, allowing the county to advance into expanded Stage 2 of the reopening process.
The new directive allows dine-in restaurants as well as hair salons and barbershops to open with strict modifications to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
