GONZALES — One person was found dead following a vehicle fire in Gonzales on Friday morning.

At about 6:41 a.m. on July 21, 9-1-1 dispatch received a call about a vehicle that was on fire in the 300 block of Rincon Road.

Gonzales officers responded within minutes to find the vehicle fully engulfed in large flames, emitting thick black smoke on the roadway of the cul-de-sac of Rincon Road. 

Gonzales Fire Department arrived shortly after, and upon extinguishing the fire, a deceased occupant was located seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

“This is still an open and active investigation, and the deceased’s identity has not been verified and will not be made available until established and family notification is completed,” police said in a news release.

Investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the fire and gather additional information, police added.
