COLLEGE ELECTION RESULTS
SALINAS — The latest results of the June 4 Special Vacancy Election for Hartnell Community College District Governing Board Member, Trustee Area 6, show candidate Cesar O. Iracheta leading by more than 53% of the vote. According to the semi-final official results report posted June 7, Iracheta received 551 votes, or 53.39%, compared to candidate Phillip Nickerson, who garnered 481 votes, or 46.61%. Voter turnout for Trustee Area 6, which includes parts of Northeast Salinas, Chualar, Gonzales and Soledad, was at 6.14% — 1,042 votes cast out of 16,962 registered voters. About a dozen vote-by-mail ballots with missing or non-matching signatures remain to be counted, and must be corrected two days before the results are certified this Friday, June 14. Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received by June 11 will be added to the count as applicable.

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Police Department has launched a new Facebook page dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their families and providing valuable information on animal services. The community can follow the page, “Lost and Found Pets of Greenfield,” at tinyurl.com/GFLostPets. For those whose pet has gone missing, simply email [email protected] with their picture, name, breed, age, sex, last known location and any other helpful details, and Greenfield PD will post about it. Anyone who has found a lost pet wandering around can report them through the new non-emergency online report system at spark.backingfire.com/montereyca or by calling 831-385-8311.
LIBRARY PROGRAMS
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Free Libraries’ Summer Reading Club sign-up started June 1, and all participants receive a free book for signing up. Programs start this week at all the branches in the county. Entertainers this summer include: Magician Perry Yan, Pint Sized Polka, Happy Birds, DRUMMM, Sterling Bubblesmith, Jungle James and Puppet Arts. Branches will also be serving Lunch at the Library, from June 12 to July 24, for youth under age 18, followed by activities all summer long. Ask a local branch about the lunch schedules.
BONUS BRIEF: PET CLINIC
GONZALES — The SPCA for Monterey County will provide a Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic for cats and dogs in Gonzales on Saturday, June 15. There is a limited number of slots available for South Monterey County residents only at the clinic, hosted by the Gonzales Police Department at 109 Fourth St. Services include a microchip and rabies vaccination, for pets 2 months to 7 years old and 2 pounds to 30 pounds.
