SALINAS VALLEY — A total of 30 South Monterey County high school wrestlers has qualified for the Central Coast Section regionals that will be contested on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Watsonville High School.
Boy wrestlers qualified after placing in the top six of their weight classes, and girls qualified after placing in the top seven. Both boys and girls competed at last weekend’s Pacific Coast Athletic League varsity finals at Hollister High School.
Qualifiers from the boys’ wrestling teams and their weight class and place included: Angel Becerra of King City (106, fifth); Adam Perez of Greenfield (113, fourth); Rafael Harrell of Soledad (126, fourth); Kevin Cruz of Greenfield (132, second); Jacob Velasco of Greenfield (138, second); Kevin Felix of Soledad (150, second); Ivan Paramo of King City (150, sixth); Gabriel Prieto of Gonzales (157, sixth); Samuel Ramirez of Soledad (165, sixth); Josiah Ramirez of Gonzales (215, second); and Rocky Villanueva of King City (285, third).
Qualifiers from the girls’ wrestling teams and their weight class and place included: Noemi De Santos of Soledad (100, fourth); Yahaira Torres of King City (100, sixth); Viridiana De Jesus of Greenfield (100, seventh); Mia Lopez of King City (105, sixth); Clarissa Rico of Gonzales (110, fourth); Shyrah McDonald of King City (115, second); Audrey Cruz of Greenfield (115, fifth); Cherish Yebra of Gonzales (115, seventh); Makayla Montoya of King City (120, second); Aaliyah Gutierrez of Soledad (120, sixth); Sophia Garcia of King City (125, sixth); Violeta Camacho of Greenfield (125, seventh); Cayden Lopez of Soledad (135, fourth); Marlene Hernandez of Greenfield (140, fourth); Stephanie Perez of King City (155, sixth); Hailey Adair of King City (170, third); Alexa Mendoza of Soledad (170, fourth); Natalie Ramirez of Soledad (235, second); and Sophia Patino of King City (235, fourth).
The top eight boys and top 10 girls will qualify for the Central Coast Section Masters Meet that will be contested on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Independence High School in San Jose. The top four boys and top four girls who place at the Masters Meet will qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation State Meet.
