GREENFIELD — Monterey County Public Works, Facilities and Parks is reminding residents about the ongoing construction work on Arroyo Seco Road, west of Greenfield.
Last year’s winter storms damaged several sections of Arroyo Seco Road, between Carmel Valley Road and the Arroyo Seco Campground.
At milepost 4.5, county contractors are installing a concrete-rail system with chain-link fence on top to catch some of the falling rocks and debris near the active slide, located about a 1/2-mile west of the Carmel Valley Road intersection.
The concrete railing (300 linear feet in total) will minimize the rocks rolling down the hillside onto the road.
Motorists are urged to take caution while traveling on this section of Arroyo Seco Road, as rocks and boulders may still jump the concrete railing during a large rockfall event.
Arroyo Seco Campground remains closed due to the ongoing construction of the road.
