SALINAS VALLEY — The final games of the regular season for South Monterey County volleyball will take place this week. Teams will be playing to earn a spot in the upcoming Central Coast Section playoffs.
KING CITY
King City Mustangs had two games last week, falling to Hollister by a 3-2 score on Oct. 21 and defeating Carmel, 3-2, on Oct. 23.
In the Hollister game, Hollyn Hearne had 15 kills for the Mustangs and nine digs. Stephanie Velasquez finished with 46 assists and 10 digs, and Avery Munoz added 12 kills and 16 digs.
In the final Gabilan Division games, King City played against host Salinas High on Monday and will host Pacific Grove on Wednesday night.
The Mustangs are in fifth place in the Gabilan with a 5-7 division mark and are 10-10 overall.
GONZALES
Gonzales Spartans are in fourth place in the Mission Division with 7-5 division and 11-13 overall records.
In its two games last week, the Spartans lost 3-0 at Monterey and claimed a 3-0 home win against the Greenfield Bruins. In the Monterey game, Breyannalee Tello had 39 assists and Maricruz Bibriesca added 26 assists.
In games this week, Gonzales played on Monday in Watsonville and will host the Alisal Trojans on Wednesday night in the Roger Fernando Gym.
SOLEDAD
Soledad Aztecs are in fifth place in the Mission Division with a 5-6 division record and are 12-11 overall.
Soledad beat Greenfield 3-1 last Tuesday and the scheduled game with Watsonville was postponed.
The Aztecs played Monday in Salinas against Alisal and will host the Stevenson Pirates on Wednesday night.
GREENFIELD
Greenfield Bruins are in sixth place in the Mission Division with 2-10 division and 5-17 overall records.
The Bruins will close the season at Everett Alvarez on Monday and play at Monterey on Wednesday.
