SOLEDAD — A pair of home and away wins last week has the Soledad High volleyball team at .500 in the Mission Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League.

The Lady Aztecs played well in a 3-0 home win to the Watsonville Wildcatz and a 3-0 road win at Gonzales.

In the Watsonville game, the Aztecs were led offensively by Delilah Ocampo, Valerie Segura and Layla Rodriguez. On defense, Aliyah Velarde, Gisella Zepeda and Camila Lopez were standouts.

Last Thursday night in Gonzales, Soledad was led offensively by Ocampo, Segura and Layla Guidino. Defensively, Camryn Gudino, Liliana Ramirez, Jaylynn Garcia and Sarahi Fernandez led the Aztecs.

Soledad swept Gonzales in varsity play this season.

Soledad (4-4 league, 5-11 overall) hosted Monterey on Monday and will complete the week with a home game Wednesday night with the Seaside Spartans.

GREENFIELD

Greenfield High volleyball team is 7-1 in the Cypress Division and 18-6 overall after the Bruins had back-to-back sweeps over the North Salinas Vikings and North County Condors.

In the 3-0 win against North Salinas, Aleena Salas led Greenfield with 14 kills and added seven kills. Jocelyn Mendoza had 18 assists, Lesley Santiago added six aces and Layla Rodriguez finished with five blocks.

In the 3-0 sweep over North County, Emily Soto had 12 kills and Salas joined her in double-figures with 11 kills. Rodriguez had six blocks and five kills.

“After dropping our first league game last week, the girls came into this week laser focused and determined,” said Greenfield head coach Adrian Trujillo.

The Bruins played Tuesday at the Marina Mariners and will host Pacific Collegiate on Wednesday in the Greenfield gym.
