SOLEDAD — Monterey County’s first Tractor Supply store recently celebrated its grand opening at 447 Nestles Road in Soledad.

The new retail location officially opened its doors on Sept. 20 with a well-attended ribbon-cutting ceremony, following a soft opening on Sept. 13.

“We are proud to welcome Tractor Supply Co. to the City of Soledad,” Mayor Anna Velazquez said. “This exciting grand opening represents more than just a new business, it’s a major investment in our community and our local economy.”

The development of the Tractor Supply store was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Soledad Planning Commission and City Council. Between 2023 and 2024, local officials worked diligently to approve key entitlements, including amendments for conditional use permits, tentative maps and site design, ensuring the project complied with zoning and development standards and provided clarity for the developers to move forward confidently.

“This is a fantastic addition to our vibrant community,” said Planning Commission Chair Josie Perez-Aguilera. “We believe that their unique offerings will not only enhance our local economy but will also enrich the lives of our residents.”

Construction of the store was completed in under a year after final entitlements were secured in October 2024, making it one of Soledad’s fastest commercial development projects to date.

Initially, the project was planned for a different retailer, but when that plan fell through, the City swiftly collaborated with the developer to secure Tractor Supply as the new anchor tenant. This strategic decision underscores Soledad’s commitment to attracting new businesses and expanding the Soledad Marketplace.

“This project highlights the power of public-private collaboration,” Senior Planner Ariana Mora said. “With guidance from the City Council and Planning Commission, City staff worked closely with the developer to ensure responsible growth that meets the needs of our community today and into the future.”

Tractor Supply offers farm and ranch supplies, tools, hardware, clothing, pet food and outdoor products, supporting local farming and outdoor lifestyles. According to Velazquez, the new store creates 23 permanent jobs and, prior to its opening, supported 63 construction jobs during the building phase.

“This investment keeps money in our community, supports local families and strengthens Soledad’s economy,” she added.
