Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez was selected by his peers to serve as second vice chair of the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) in early December.

On Jan. 12, Lopez took the Oath of Office as administered by California State Sen. Brian Dahle as part of the virtual RCRC Board of Directors meeting establishing the 2022 officers.

Lopez joins Nevada County Supervisor Dan Miller, who will serve as chair; Butte County Supervisor Doug Teeter, who will serve as first vice chair; and Mono County Supervisor Stacy Corless, who remains an officer in the role of immediate past chair.

These newly installed 2022 officers will lead the organization in championing public policies on behalf of California’s rural counties.

“I am honored and thankful to my rural county colleagues from across the state for selecting me to serve in leadership at RCRC,” Lopez said. “Rural counties face unique challenges and differing levels of resources. RCRC serves a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of those issues and establishing a collective impact at the state and federal level for the benefit of our communities.”

RCRC’s Board of Directors is headed by four officers composed of elected county supervisors from the organization’s 38 member counties. Monterey County has been a member of RCRC since 2019.

Once being elected second vice chair, it has been the custom and practice of that person to move up the ranks and ultimately lead the organization.

“This past year has seen some positive advances for rural communities, particularly in the significant funding designated for broadband access,” Lopez added. “I look forward to working with RCRC on the continued advancement of broadband deployment, wildfire prevention, and other key issues for rural Californians.”
