SOUTH COUNTY — A road win was hard to come by for the Gonzales Spartans and the Greenfield Bruin baseball team as the South County foes split their Mission Trail Athletic League games last week. Gonzales lost 8-4 at Greenfield on April 10 and Greenfield lost by a 5-4 score last Friday in Gonzales.

In the Tuesday game in Greenfield the Spartans held a 2-0 lead until the fifth inning when the Bruins erupted for eight runs. Gonzales scored two more runs in the final inning in the 8-4 final. Jaime Soto hit a triple for three runs batted in for Greenfield and Agustin Pantoja added three hits and Alexis Zavala added two hits. Zavala earned the pitching win and Andy Trujillo earned the save.

For Gonzales Xando Mendez, Manny Vargas, and Isaiah had two hits apiece while Michael Duby, Dilan Gomez, and Jonathan Ganaden added singles.

On Friday in Gonzales Gonzalo Villagomez was the winning pitcher and Alex Morga was credited with a save. Giovanny Garcia had two RBI’s and Michael Duby scored two runs.

Greenfield’s Andy Espinoza scored two runs and Agustin Pantoja added a basehit.

The Bruins fell to 5-5 in the MTAL and are 7-8 overall.

Gonzales is 4-4 in league and 4-10 overall.

The Bruins played in San Juan Bautista yesterday against the Anzar Hawks and will host the Hawks on Friday.

The Spartans began a two-game series with Pacific Grove yesterday at home and play at Pacific Grove on Friday afternoon.
