SOLEDAD — City of Soledad will host a grand opening for the much-anticipated Orchard Lane Park on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m.

The park, which has been under construction for more than a year, will be the first of its kind in South Monterey County to be fully inclusive — meeting the needs of all children, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

“The City of Soledad and the Parks and Recreation Department are excited to be able to provide the community a space to get out of doors as a family, and for youth of all abilities to come together,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Jessica Potts. “The Orchard Lane Park will provide a place for a variety of healthy activities, from play to spending time with our furry family, for everyone for generations to come.”

The grand opening will include speakers from the offices of Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Sen. Anna Caballero and Assemblymember Robert Rivas, and will have in attendance members of surrounding city councils, school boards and community groups, as well as the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. There will also be music and food.

“The opening of Orchard Lane Park is truly a historic moment for Soledad and our South County region as the inclusive playground will be the first in South Monterey County,” said Soledad Mayor Anna Velazquez. “The park reflects the values of our community deeply rooted in youth and families. It was envisioned by and for our community. I’m excited children of all abilities will now have fun and create lasting memories!”

Orchard Lane Park, located at 300 Orchard Lane, was funded 100% by Prop 68 dollars from the State of California. The City of Soledad held community input sessions with the help of the Soledad Youth Council.

The park includes a dog park, skate park, inclusive playground, restrooms, nature walk, a butterfly garden, lawn and event space, picnicking and accessible park pathways.
