SALINAS VALLEY — With the baseball and softball seasons ending, the last thing to do before closing out another year is to hand out the awards.
Soledad Aztecs
For the second straight year, Soledad Aztecs’ ace Eric Segura was all-league MVP in the Gabilan Division. Segura was 4-1 this year with an ERA of .66.
Joining Segura again with first-team all-league honors was Dominic Chavez. This past year at the plate, Chavez batted 382.
Earning second-team all-league honors was center fielder Jesse Farfan. His 26 RBIs ranked him in the top 25 in the Central Coast.
The Lady Aztecs made history by becoming co-champs in the Cypress Division; they went 13-1 In league play this season.
Receiving first-team all-league honors were: sophomore Kassandra Hernandez, who led the team in hits this season; Lizeth Madrid, who was the key bat for the Aztecs as she led the team in RBIs; Alexia Calderon, who finished in the top five of each batting category for the Cypress league co-champs; and Arlette Mosqueda, who was one of two sophomores that made the league for Soledad.
Second-team all-league were: Destiny Ceja, Lizbeth Madrid and Jaylynn Garcia.
Gonzales Spartans
After coming in second place in the Cypress Division, the Gonzales Spartans had six players earn all-league honors this year.
First-team all-league were: Josh Chavez, Isaiah Mottu, Joseph Acosta and Jonathan Ybarra.
Second-team all-league were: Isaiah Esquivel and Manuel Perea.
Barely missing out on the playoffs, the Lady Spartans finished their season in the Mission Division, winning five of their last six games.
Probably one of the most underrated athletes in CCS, Celeste Camarena once again led her team in hits and triples and earned first-team all-league honors.
Earning second-team all-league honors were: freshman Alizah Garcia, who led the Lady Spartans in RBIs and home runs; and catcher Josselyn Hernandez, who produced at the plate this year after being in the top five of every category.
Greenfield Bruins
After a history-setting year in the Cypress Division, the Greenfield Bruins’ Manny Gutierrez won Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year and Malcolm Bautista won Offensive Player of the Year.
First-team all-league were: Manny Gutierrez, Malcolm Bautista, Tony Pantoja and Alex Gutierrez.
Second-team all-league were: Gabe Conte and Tyler Garcia.
After a down year, look for the Lady Bruins to move down a division and make another run at a title.
Earning second-team all-league honors in the Mission Division was Mikayla Sanchez, who was last year’s Pitcher of the Year and was a star on the Lady Bruins squad this year.
King City Mustangs
After improving from a year ago, the King City Mustangs increased their win total in the Mission Division.
Earning first-team all-league honors was the Mustangs’ Brycee Blair.
Second-team all-league were: Jared Tognetti and Jose Aguirre.
Other than the team award, many Lady Mustangs were recognized as all-leaguers in the Mission Division.
For the second straight year, Sage Flores was voted Best Defensive Player in the league.
Receiving first-team all-league honors were: Malaya Carrillo, who once again was huge for the Mustangs as she was their everyday starter and was a major bat; Julia Mendez, who was only four hits away from leading the team in hits; and Sage Flores, who led the team in hits and was a standout with the glove.
Second-team all-league were: Ava Aguilar and Kayla Tankersley.
