SOLEDAD — Soledad Police Department has released statistics related to illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July this year.

“This 4th of July was busy and we wanted to share an update on the holiday,” the department posted on social media July 6.

In total, there were:

  • 11 citations issued for illegal fireworks;
  • 300 pounds of fireworks confiscated;
  • 2 vegetation fires caused by illegal fireworks;
  • 1 backyard fire caused by illegal fireworks;
  • 1 structure fire caused by illegal fireworks; and
  • 100-plus calls for illegal fireworks being used.

“Our officers worked diligently to respond to fireworks calls, issue citations, confiscate fireworks and conduct as much illegal fireworks suppression as they could, and still respond to other emergency calls for service,” Soledad Police said.

The department also gave thanks to those community members who called in illegal fireworks, used safe-and-sane fireworks and enjoyed the holiday safely.
