SOLEDAD — Local officials spoke in front of a packed house last Wednesday at a community forum in Soledad to discuss changes in immigration regulations and rights.

The “Know Your Rights” forum, held in Spanish at the Soledad Community Center, included resources and information to protect local families and children.

The Jan. 29 event was a partnership between the City of Soledad, Watsonville Law Center and Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez.

“As we see the fear and anxiety in our community due to threats of their loved ones being deported, the City of Soledad is committed to supporting our families,” said Soledad Mayor Anna Velazquez.

Other immigration forums are planned for Friday, Feb. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Gonzales High School in Gonzales; Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Vista Verde Middle School in Greenfield; and Thursday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m. at Hartnell College’s Soledad Education Center in Soledad.
