Soledad High students help clean up local park

SOLEDAD — Soledad High School students participated in a tobacco litter cleanup last month at Vosti Park in Soledad as part of the STEPS (Safe Teens Empowerment Project) Program through Sun Street Centers.

For two hours, more than 20 students collected 493 cigarette butts and filled a few bags of other trash found at the park.

Sun Street hosted the Nov. 16 cleanup, along with two others at Natividad Creek Park in Salinas and Sand City Beach in Sand City, in honor of American Cancer Society’s Great American Smoke Out Day.

Students were provided with snacks as well as community service hours for their participation.

The Soledad teens arrange an anti-smoking message using some of the 493 cigarette butts collected during the Nov. 16 cleanup. (Contributed)
