SOLEDAD — City of Soledad recently announced that levee repairs have been completed in order to protect its Water Reclamation Facility from flood inundation from the Salinas River.
The heavy intensity and duration of winter rains, Salinas River dam releases and resultant high river flows during the winters of 2022-23 and 2023-24 had “once again soured” the Water Reclamation Facility levee, requiring significant repair work, according to the City.
Last spring, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) staff visited the Water Reclamation Facility levee and agreed to a levee repair project under their P.L. 84-99 program.
USACE funded 80% of the project’s cost, with the City picking up the remaining 20%.
City staff worked with USACE, providing them with city documents and records, county resource conservation district aerials and LiDAR drawings, along with site visits as needed for USACE to design and construct levee repairs.
