SOLEDAD — Soledad High School’s softball team ended the season last Wednesday after an 11-1 loss to the South San Francisco Warriors in the Central Coast Section Division V playoffs.
The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead at the top of the first inning but were outscored 11-0 the rest of the way. A single by Maria Villarruel scored Aubrey Esparza, who had reached first with a base hit.
South San Francisco built a 5-1 lead in their half of the first inning using three base hits to score five runs. The Warrior pitching held the Aztecs to six hits with Sophia Gonzalez hitting a double for the only Soledad base hit.
Delylah Ocampo took the loss for the Aztecs and threw a complete game and allowed nine hits.
Soledad was the No. 3 seed in Division V and South San Francisco was the No. 2 seed. On Saturday, South San Francisco lost the Division V championship game to No. 4 seed King City by an 11-1 tally.
Soledad finished with a 13-10 overall record and were fifth in the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Mission Division with an 8-8 record.
