SALINAS VALLEY — An offensive explosion for the Greenfield Bruins softball team produced 63 runs in wins against Anzar, Pajaro Valley and Marina.
In their first game last week, the Bruins shut out the Anzar Hawks, 15-0. Greenfield scored five runs in the first, second and third innings to build the huge lead.
Chloe Zavala threw a complete game no-hitter and struck out 10 batters. Yara Hernandez had two hits and two runs batted in, Nathalie Soto had three hits with three RBIs and Marissa Castillo had three hits, while Zavala led the team with four hits, three RBIs and a double.
Two days later at home with Pajaro Valley, Zavala threw a three-hitter and struck out eight batters. Hernandez led Greenfield with four hits, Zavala aided her own cause with three hits, including a double, and had three RBIs.
Brizea Rojas hit a double and a homerun and finished with seven RBIs in the 23-2 victory for the Bruins.
In the 25-0 win against host Marina, Zavala had a one-hit decision with 11 Ks. Zavala and Soto hit home runs and the team finished with 23 hits, including four doubles.
In games this week, the Bruins hosted Carmel on Tuesday, will host Anzar on Thursday afternoon and will host Gonzales on Friday. Greenfield is 11-12 overall and 9-0 in the Cypress division.
Gonzales started last week with a 15-2 loss to Alisal, regrouped for a 20-0 win against St. Francis, and then beat Seaside 13-3 last Friday.
In the loss to Alisal, Maryanne Camarena hit a home run and a double. Karisma Cabada and Alizah Garcia added base hits.
In the lopsided win against St. Francis, five Spartan players had at least two hits, including doubles, by Viviana Ruacho and Jenesis De La Rosa.
At home against Seaside, Ruacho earned the shutout and no-hitter. Gonzales had 13 hits with Angelina Navarro hitting a double and a triple. Ruacho and Cherish Yebra had doubles.
Gonzales will host Greenfield on Friday for its only game of the week. The Spartans are 6-1 in the Cypress and 11-12 overall.
In the Mission Division, King City is in fourth place at 9-3 and 14-8 overall. The Mustangs played just two games last week, beating Stevenson by 13-7 and downing host Monte Vista Christian, 18-13.
Alizah Carrillo threw an eight hitter and had 12 strikeouts against the Pirates. Carrillo contributed with three hits, including a double, and had two RBIs. Avery Munoz hit two doubles with three RBIs.
Against Monte Vista Christian, Carrillo had 11 strikeouts. Janesa Lopez and Crystal Paramo hit doubles and Katia Slama had three hits with a homerun and four RBIs.
King City will host the Soledad Aztecs on Thursday afternoon for their only game of the week.
Soledad is in fifth place in the Mission and won two divisional games last week. The Aztecs beat host Stevenson by 17-5 and edged Monte Vista Christian, 13-12.
Delylah Ocampo had three strikeouts and allowed three runs. Kassandra Hernandez had two hits with five RBIs, and Jaylynn Garcia hit a triple with two RBIs.
In the win over Monte Vista Christian, Hernandez came in to get the pitching victory in relief of starter Ocampo. Hernandez had two hits and Ocampo led the team with three RBIs. Arlette Mosqueda hit a homerun and a double.
Soledad is 9-7 overall and 6-6 in the Mission division. The Aztecs play at King City on Thursday.
