SALINAS VALLEY — The Greenfield and Soledad girls’ soccer teams are leading their respective divisions in the Pacific Coast Athletic League in the third week of play, while the Gonzales and King City boys’ teams are leading their divisions.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

The Gonzales girls’ soccer team won two in a row for the first time this season, beating King City 4-2 on Jan. 14 at Rabobank in Salinas and concluding the week with a 5-0 win over the Palma Chieftains two days later.

Scoring goals against King City for Gonzales were Adilene Cortez-Lopez, Janelle Garcia, Valeria Oliva and Alessandra Tejeda-Ochoa. Cortez-Lopez, Garcia, Tejeda-Ochoa and Jennifer Fajardo had assists. Goalie Areli Calderon-Mancera was credited with eight saves.

Against Palma, Kaylee Camacho, Maria Rosales and Zaharia Vega scored solo goals and Janelle Garcia scored two goals. Defensive standouts were Italia Hernandez, Grecia Valdez-Cisneros, Altizel Mauro-Perez, Maria Rosales and Andrea Amador.

King City’s Destiny Mosqueda and Isabella Hernandez-Swift scored solo goals and Janessa Correa had an assist.

Last Thursday the Mustangs played to a 1-1 tie against Robert Louis Stevenson. Alyssa Torres-Macias scored the King City goal and Hernandez-Swift had an assist.

Soledad was 2-1 in the Gabilan Division last week with a 10-0 shutout against Everett Alvarez, a 4-0 shutout at Watsonville and a 1-1 tie at home against Salinas High.

Last Monday in Salinas in the Everett Alvarez game, Vanessa Aguilar scored four goals for Soledad and Myah De Leon scored two goals. Scoring solo goals were Myrin Amilpa, Michelle Aguilar, Nichole Gonzalez and Princess Ponce. Goalie Marianna Leon finished the game with 17 saves.

In the Watsonville contest, Clarissa Valdez scored two goals to lead Soledad. Fabiola Mandujano and De Leon added solo goals, and Aguilar and Amilpa had assists. Leon had another strong game with eight saves.

In the game on Friday with the Salinas Cowboys in Soledad, Aguilar and Gonzales scored the Aztec goals, Amilpa had an assist and Leon had 14 saves at goalie.

The Greenfield Bruins improved to 5-0 in the Cypress Division after a 2-0 win at home against Santa Catalina and a 3-0 home win against the Pacific Grove Breakers.

Aideliz Morano and Destiny Hernandez scored solo goals, and Kimberly Sanchez and Alexeen Sanchez earned assists.

In the home game with Pacific Grove, Aundrea Sanchez, Destiny Hernandez and Moreno scored the Greenfield goals. Sanchez and Yesenia Patricio had assists for the Bruins.

In girls’ soccer games scheduled for this week, Gonzales hosted Pacific Grove on Monday at Rabobank and Greenfield on Wednesday at Rabobank and ends the week Friday at Santa Catalina; King City hosts Seaside on Wednesday and plays at Palma on Friday; Soledad played at Rancho San Juan on Tuesday and will host Monterey on Wednesday night; and Greenfield will end the week against Stevenson on Friday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Greenfield made the most of its only game last week, beating the visiting North Salinas Vikings 4-1 on Jan. 14.

Braulio Zuniga led the Bruins with two goals, and Hector Garcia and Anthony Zuniga added solo goals. Garcia was credited with an assist and Alex Sanchez had two assists.

Gonzales lost for the first time in the Cypress Division this season, falling 1-0 at Carmel last Tuesday to the host Padres.

Last Thursday at Rabobank, the Spartans recovered from the setback to Carmel with a 3-0 win over Pacific Collegiate. Jorge Uribe, Emmanuel Valdez and Edgar Santiago scored goals for Gonzales. Uribe, Matthew Arreola and Kevin Tavarez assisted on goals.

Soledad High also had just one game last week, defeating Monte Vista Christian Mustangs 3-1 in Watsonville.

Christian Romero scored two goals and Joshua Guzman scored a solo goal. Ivan Gaitan distributed an assist and Jason Rico had two assists.

The King City Mustangs played three games last week, beating Rancho San Juan 3-1 on Jan. 13 on the road, claiming a 2-1 home win against Pajaro Valley, and ending the week with a 1-1 tie at Pebble Beach against the host Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates.

In boys’ games this week, Greenfield hosts Monterey on Wednesday night and travels to Alisal on Friday; Gonzales has just one game this week on Friday at Soledad; the Aztecs play at North Monterey County on Wednesday; and King City played at Salinas on Tuesday.
