GONZALES — Gonzales High School boys soccer team hosted an awards night and dinner last Thursday night in the school cafeteria.

Although the Spartans did not play a full season, the team had a successful season with a winning record and earned a trip to the Central Coast Section playoffs.

The July 15 evening began with a pizza dinner, followed by a presentation of certificates to all athletes that competed this season and certificates to honor those with high GPAs.

“Given the circumstances that we have been living this past year, it was exciting to be able to come out and play a season,” said Gonzales head boys soccer coach Salvador Garcia. “I am proud of my boys for showing up and giving their best during practice and games.”

Gonzales ended the regular season with a 7-1-1 overall record and qualified for CCS.

“I want to thank everyone who made this season possible,” Garcia said. “Special thanks to Coach Daniels for making this a wonderful experience. She really did a good job as athletic director and she was always very supportive. We could not have done this without her. Thanks to all the family and friends who supported us. This season was dedicated to Coach Juan Flores. Now it is time to start the planning for the next season and I’m sure we will come out stronger.”
