GONZALES — Two years of soccer success were celebrated March 27 by the Gonzales High School girls soccer program at the school cafeteria, where players, coaches and parents gathered for a night of food, friends and celebration.
After everyone enjoyed a meal of ceviche with all the fixings and delicious desserts, Gonzales coaches Jose Tejeda, Alessandra Tejeda and Jose Ochoa presented their players from the varsity and JV teams.
Players received school certificates of achievement, with some also earning certificates for academic success from Gonzales High and the Central Coast Section.
Monterey County District 3 Supervisor Chris Lopez attended the event and presented the varsity team with a Board of Supervisors Resolution plaque recognizing the team for their outstanding achievements as back-to-back Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division champions. Each member of the varsity team and their coaches received a copy of the resolution.
The team also received a certificate from the State Assembly recognizing their accomplishments this past season.

Special team awards were presented to the following varsity players: Andrea Amador (Coaches Award); Alitzel Mauro-Perez (Defensive Player of the Year); Isabella Camargo (Midfielder of the Year); and Isabella Mandujano (Offensive Player of the Year). Janelle Garcia was picked as the Most Valuable Player.
All-League patches were presented to first-team All-League players, Mandujano, Camargo, Mauro-Perez and Garcia. Varsity team players also received championship block G’s for winning the back-to-back titles.
“I’d like to thank the parents and school administration for being so supportive to our team,” said Coach Jose Tejeda. “This year we may not have filled up the stat sheet with goals scored, but we scored when we needed to and finished the season with six shutouts.”
Coach Jose Ochoa presented special team awards to his JV standouts: Laysha Lorenzo-Amador (MVP); Selina Guido (Midfielder of the Year); Monique Suarez (Defensive Player of the Year); and Camila Macias (Coaches Award).
