GONZALES — The Gonzales boys’ soccer team secured the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Cypress Division championship last week with three wins.
The Spartans (14-3-2 overall, 10-1 in Cypress) claimed a 5-2 win over Ceiba College Prep, shut out Carmel 2-0, and finished the week with a 2-1 victory over Pacific Collegiate.

The Spartans won 12 championships as members of the MTAL. The Cypress title is their first soccer championship in the PCAL.
Gonzales head coach Miguel Vidauri, a 2009 Spartans graduate and a member of the 2006-07 Central Coast Section Division II champions, knew from the start of the season that he would have an outstanding team.
“I had lots of returning players with many solid players in each position,” Vidauri said. “We had five senior starters and so we should be a really good team next year as well.”
The Spartans were led in scoring by Uribe and his 19 goals from the wing position, although Uribe had the ability to play upfront or in the midfield. Luis Benevides was a standout at center back, and Mathew Arreola played well at right defense along with Omar Gonzalez. Luis Cabada has made 81 saves this season at goalie.
