MONTEREY COUNTY ā€” Last year SNIP Bus spayed and neutered more than 5,426 animals in Monterey County, and now SNIP Bus is launching a public wellness program in South Monterey County that will offer additional low-cost services for pets beginning this week.

The SNIP Bus (Spay Neuter Imperative Project) is a 501(c)(3) low-cost mobile spay and neuter clinic focusing services on underserved communities. Through their work, more than 70,273 pets have been spayed/neutered across the state of California.

In partnership with the County of Monterey, 30 clinics were hosted during the fiscal year of 2022-23 with an average of 33 animals per clinic receiving services.

ā€œIt is easy to point out problems ā€” solving them takes a different type of team. I am proud to have convened genuine leaders and critical thinkers to bring forward new resources for our community,ā€ said County Supervisor Chris Lopez. ā€œSNIP is a trusted and proven partner in Southern Monterey County and beyond, and today they have once again proven that they are here with us for the long haul.ā€

The Spay Neuter Imperative Project and its leadership is stepping up to fill the unexpected gaps of care occurring in the community with the SNIP Wellness Program.

ā€œWe are honored to announce the launch of a new line of services for South Countyā€™s pets and their humans,ā€ said Melanie Scherer, CEO of SNIP Bus. ā€œToday we are debuting our first two dates of service and the intent to make these services available twice monthly to the communities of Southern Monterey County to meet the needs of our neighbors.ā€

The programā€™s first two dates of service are April 12-13 in Soledad. In addition to spay and neuter services, the SNIP Bus team will be offering a limited range of essential medical care and procedures. Call 831-206-1368 to schedule an appointment.

These services are being offered at very low rates in recognition of the ā€œeconomic impacts these services can have on families in our region,ā€ according to Scherer.

ā€œSNIP will continue to bring affordable and accessible mobile solutions to communities in need ā€” that has been our commitment from day one, and we will continue to fulfill the need,ā€ Scherer added.

The SNIP Busā€™ key focus is making certain that Monterey County residents and their pets have access to the greatest levels of care, regardless of location, economic situation or other barriers that may exist.

ā€œTogether we will continue to demolish barriers and build bridges to solutions that seem out of reach,ā€ Scherer said. ā€œOur pets are often a lifeline, whether officially a service animal or not, they provide compassion, empathy and love that can make the difference for a lonely senior, confidence for an emotionally or physically broken child, and pure joy for us all. They deserve amazing care and we are committed to deliver for them and their humans.ā€
