SIGNAL SAFETY

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Public Works urges drivers to remain safe during power outages by remembering signal safety rules. With the potential for power shutoffs in the area, the county has reminded drivers about special rules for power outages that affect traffic signals. The California Vehicle Code says when approaching a flashing red or blacked out traffic signal, drivers are to treat the intersection as if it is a four-way stop. Drivers are to stop and proceed with caution according to right-of-way rules exactly as they would at a stop sign.
