WHITE CANE DAY
KING CITY — King City Lions Club will host its annual White Cane Day on Friday, Oct. 1, with tables set up at Safeway and Ace Hardware in King City for monetary donations. The majority of funds collected will benefit local children by providing eye exams and eyeglasses. The club provides $4,000 to $8,000 each year for this service. In addition, used glasses may be dropped off at Friday’s donation locations as well as year round at the King City Library, 402 Broadway St. The glasses are refurbished for those in need.

SOLEDAD — Soledad resident and local author Jafe Danbury will present his new novel, “Leaving Phoenix,” during a book-signing event on Friday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Downtown Book & Sound, 213 Main St., in Salinas. His latest thriller is steeped in local interest, with its backdrop including Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove and the Salinas Valley. Danbury, a longtime resident of the Central Coast region, wrote this as a follow-up to his award-winning debut novel, “The Other Cheek,” which was awarded a Finalist Medal in its category of “Best First Novel” in the 2020 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
RIDE AND DRIVE
SALINAS — Ecology Action is hosting its sixth annual Ride and Drive Event in Salinas on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Amtrak Station Parking Lot, 11 Station Place, in honor of National Drive Electric Week. This family event showcases electric vehicles at all affordability levels and is an opportunity for the community to view, learn and test-drive electric cars. Community organizations will also have booths set up and activities for youth and adults, in addition to an opportunity to win an electric bike.
